Heath Babb, Owner/Head Coach

My name is Heath A Babb, and I live in Hilton Head, South Carolina, with my fiance’ and our three kids. I moved here in 1993 from Maine, and, ever since, I’ve enjoyed the island life and all it’s brought me. Moving to Hilton Head led me to discover my love for board sports. Some of my favorites are stand up paddle surfing, one wheeling, and snowboarding. A lot of my down time is spent pursuing hobbies, and I’m just lucky to be in a relationship that supports and encourages this.  Any type of board sport puts a huge smile on my face, really. I feel like it’s one of those types of sports that just gives you that intense adrenaline rush, balanced and at the same time excited. While I am riding I feel as if I am living my best life. Oh, I forgot. White water rafting. One of my first loves. I just absolutely love the thrill of going down a river and really getting to test myself on what my limits are.

If it means anything to you, my family is still the number one love of my life, though. My fiance’ and our kids mean the world to me, and it’s one of the reasons I actually keep pushing myself to be better and stay fit.

When it comes to staying in shape, though, I’ve actually been coaching for twenty years. I began my professional career as Owner/Cofounder of Crossfit Hilton Head. This business venture really took off and I sold it after two years to move out to California and pursue coaching there where I worked at CrossFit Forest for a year before branching out on my own again as a consultant for other Functional Fitness Gyms. I traveled across the country to helping gyms train and hire new coaches, creating sustainable programs, and being able to help them build their businesses from the ground up.

For the past few years, I’ve also been involved in some educational platforms such as MadLab and Performance Care RX. I have done what I can to educate myself in other areas where I could also be of service such as sports psychology and self help. I’m also certified in Pose Running, Mobility, ONNIT Durability, Active Life Coaches Immersion and currently working through OPEX CCP.

So why Your Active Life Online and Active Life, Hilton Head? I’m currently 44 years old, and it took me a good minute to realize that my age is already something that some people may think may put me over the hill when it comes to performance, activity, and maintenance. I also asked myself how different things could be if I didn’t do what I’m doing now when it comes to maintaining my active lifestyle. I told myself I needed to change some things because Father Time has proven to be unbeatable, but it doesn’t mean that we can’t push back against Father Time a bit, am I right? Best thing we can do is enjoy where we are, know we’re in a good place, and be able to use our time wisely.

I created some new habits, changed some parts of my lifestyle, and I understand now what it is that we need as we head towards what others might think as our middle ages. Going to the gym everyday isn’t an option anymore and isn’t the right way to do things. What I realized was that it was a way to failure and injury because all we do with that is chasing the high of fitness without really being properly fit to do what’s needed outside of the gym. The strength that we need now is the same premise as what we needed when we were younger, but how are we going to get there? Who’s gonna help us? With my experience and with what I’ve learned over the past years, I decided that, hey, it’s time for me to step up, do my part, and be the catalyst for this kind of change.

Heath’s coaching is top-notch!

He took a group of slugs and taught us how to move, lift, stretch and start all over again the next day. Most importantly, his down-to-earth, lighthearted approach helped us get over our initial hesitations!
